"Uncle Andy, Aunt Judy and I were born in the West End, which was torn down as part of the urban renewal frenzy of the 1950's/60's. We moved to Dorchester in 1954 and then to Newton Corner (not very Jewish part of Newton) in 1964 - 1971.

In Dorchester, belonged to a very poor synagogue -- Andy said it was Orthodox -- but might've been strict Conservative. Don't know what synagogue Nick and his folks were aligned with back in the West End.

And I was told by the rabbi I was a bad Jew for hanging out with blacks and Catholics, when I was thrown out of Hebrew School because I skipped class.
