About Pvt. Ray Ruel Wells
Ray was born in Irasburg, VT. In 1917 he registered for WW1, and listed his occupation with the Boston and Maine Railroad as station agent. At time of registration in Jan 1918 he was blue eyed with brown hair, and of medium height and build. During the war, he was a private and served for 6 mos. with the ordnance branch of the 101st Ammunition Train, which was composed of First Vermont Infantry on horses and the Massachusetts Coast Artillery in a truck battalion. At the time of the 1920 US Census, he was living in Lyndon Corner, VT and still working as a railroad station agent. He married Alice Caroline (Kidder) Farrar on 11 Jul 1919 in Lyndon, VT. By the time of the 1930 US Census, Ray had been transferred as RR station agent to Haverhill, NH. Per the 1940 US Census, Ray had become a railroad operator in Haverhill. Alice died in 1942, and Ray married Anne Marie Markee in Pike, a village of Haverhill, NH on 13 Apr 1946.
