Pvt. Reuben M. Melton, CSA

1. 1 Melton, Reuben M. born March 10 or 18, 1832 and died November 1, 1902. He was first a Blacksmith in Syria, Virginia and later, a blacksmith in Graves Mill. Reuben was a Civil War Veteran. He was within Co. "C" 4th Va. Cavalry (known as Madison County Invincibles) as a farrier. He first married Virginia Jackson Wallis. After the death of Virginia (1878), he secondly married Mary Texas Collins on January 16, 1879. One of the children from his first marriage was Virginia (Belle) Isabella Melton. She married John T. Sylba. After the death of Reuben, his wife Mary married John Lillard Jenkins. Mary and Reuben owned the Graves Mill Grist Mill and operated a general and millinery store upon their property along with the grist mill.
