About Rabbi Binyomin Ze'ev (Vofsche) Kaufman
Born in Zlotchov, Galicia he moved at a young age to Vienna, Austria at the beginning of the 1930s. (His family had been living in Vienna during WWI but had returned to Zlotchov after the war. His sister Chaya was born in Vienna in 1916). He came to the UK with the kindertransport in December 1938. In London he joined the Schneider's Yeshiva (Toras Emess) under the leadership of Reb Moshe Schneider. After his years at Schneider's Yeshiva, he continued on to Gateshead Yeshiva for 6 months and then to the newly established Kolel in Gateshead under the leadership of Rabbi Eliyohu Eliezer Dessler. There, he formed a very close relationship with Rabbi Dessler.. Several years later he was appointed Magid Shiur (lecturer) at the Sunderland Yeshiva where he taught for about 18 years. Some years later he was appointed Rosh Hakolel (Dean of Academy) of the Manchester Kolel, a post he held until his death about 46 years later.
