Rabbi Moshe Maimon

The abbreviation "Z"L" or Zayin-Lamed stands for "Zichrono Livrocha," literally "of blessed memory," and indicates the loved one is deceased. It has been rendered as "the late..." or "deceased." This is often used after an important and renowned person (ie. a rabbi or renowned leader) is deceased.. An ordinary person is referred to (not that ordinary people are not important too) as Ayin-Hay or Alev Hashalom or Rest in peace. Some people choose to use Z"L for regular citizens as well.

The Maimon family is a Turkish rabbinical dynasty. Current Maimon Rabbis in America include the Rabbi Maimon of Sephardic Bikur Holim in Seattle, his sons are also Rabbis there. Rabbi Michael Azose of Chicago is his son in law and Rabbi Marc Angel of NY is his nephew. This family ultimately originates with the RAMBAM himself, Rabbi Moses ben Maimon of Spain, the foremost Torah commentator, medical genius, statesman and leader that the Jewish people has known in this millenia.
