About Rabbi Naftali (Avraham) Hirsch (Tzvi) Halavi Spitz

Moravian rabbi; born about 1628; died at Worms abt 1712. In 1663 he was appointed rabbi of a Moravian congregation, and in 1692 dayyan at Nikolsburg, where he officiated for twelve years. In 1704 he was called to Worms, where he remained until his death. He was the author of the following works "Male Raẓon"(Frankfort-on-the-Main, 1710), novellæ to forty-five treatises of the Talmud; "Yerushshat Naftali" (appended to "Male Raẓon"), explanations of the most difficult Tosafot passages in the Talmud; and many unpublished works that relate to the Talmud. Before he died he instructed his sons to study daily two pages of his commentary during the year of mourning. An approbation by him of the ritualistic work "Maginne Ereẓ" was printed in the edition of that work (Dyhernfurth, 1692) Bibliography:

In the Sefer Malei Ratzon (1710 - Frankfurt am Main) which he authored, his name is stated as "Avraham" Naftali Hersh Halavi. It seems that Avraham Spitz may have been his step brother not his brother.

wrote: "Jefe Anaf" Frankfurt 1696. He was Rabbi at first in Dresnitz and Rausnitz, then in Nikolsburg and later the chief Rabbi of Worms. accorfing to Wachstein: he died 17 September 1712.
