Info from Franziska Wiessenbacher:
Rachel's daughter Esther Rachel got her mothers name because she was not married and lived with her mother and family. She had 5(!) children outside of wedlock...... must have been a big scandal. Firstly a son, Solomon, he died at the age of 1. Then twins, one died, one was Esther. Then she had twins again who died with birth. So Esther was the only child to survive.
When I told my aunt, she said, Oh but everyone in the family knew who was the father. Rachel was a kitchenmaid in a big house and the Master of the house was the father. He never did anything to support Esther. Luckily Ribca never threw Rachel out (which was common in those days) but helped her take care of Esther.
I admire Ribca a lot. They were very poor, she got 14 children, her husband died early but 11 children survived and Esther was the first child that got vaccinated. When Ribca died she was 57 and had 20 grandchildren!
