When, in April 30, 1741, the Presbyterian Chruch of Pittsgove was organized he, his wife, and his son Abraham, signed hte Church Covenant as constituent members and comtinued their membership until death, when both Husband and wife were buried side by side in its Old Churchyard, where her gravestone bears the inscription:
In Memory of Rachel Nieukirk, whose maiden name was Ten Eyck, wife of Cornelius Nieukirk, of Pittsgrave who departed this life Augst 13, 1771 Aged 71 years, ten months, two weeks BEing dead yet speakath.
My numerous progeny attend If Happiness you mean to find Tis not in Honour Health or Gold Or allthe Plesures of your world Tis faith in Christ tis Love supreme To thy good God, adn Love to Man To Obey Persevre adn resign This! this is happiness divine! In Life in Death Eternity! Vain all, all life is vanity.
Cornelius Nieukirk was married Mach 17, 1721, by Dominie Petus Vas of Kingston, to Rachel Ten Eyck, baptizd at Kingston, Nov 8, 1699, by Domine Johannes Petrus Nucella of that Church, daughter of Mathys Ten Eyck of Hurley and his wife Jannetje Roosa. Rachael Nieukirk executred her will at Pittsgrove, July 5, 1762, naming tehrein as legatees: sons Abraham, Matthew, Garret, and Cornelius; daughters Yonica Du Bois, Elizabeath Du Bois, Catherine Garrison, jacomnytje Du Bois and Sarah Du Bois; Grandchildren Rachel, daughter of Cornelius Nieukirk, Her daughter, Mary, is un-mentioned, son Matthew Nieukirk and Jacob du Bois are appointed executres.
