Rabbi Geller is Buried in Houston
Funeral services for Rabbi Jacob Geller, 67, former Galvestonian, who died in Houston Saturday night, where held from the residence yesterday afternoon, thence to Adath Israel Cemetery. Officiating were Rabbis A. Schnecter and Nathan H. Colish, both of Houston; H. J. Horowitz of Galveston, and L. W. Yellen of Beaumont.
Rabbi Geller had been Rabbi of the Adath Israel congregation since 1910 and was elected for life tenure last November by the congregation.
Rabbi Geller, who was born in Galicia and received his rabbinical training there, became Rabbi of the orthodox community of Galveston in 1892. While there he organized the Hebrew Orthodox Benevolent Association and dedicated a synagogue built by the Young Men's Hebrew Association. He served there for eighteen years, coming to Houston in 1910.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Sarah Geller; four sons, Harry Geller of New York, Samuel Geller, Abram L. Geller and Rabbi Max Geller, all of Houston; four daughters, Mrs. Jacob Leff and Miss Esther Geller, both of Houston, Mrs. Goldie Minkes of St. Louis and Mrs. Leah Gordon of Massillon, Ohio, and eleven grandchildren.
