About Raymond Bernard
From attached family history:
"Raymond had retrieved his position and was once more a wealthy man, when he was again utterly ruined by the hasty and ill-managed Emancipation of the Slaves which was suddenly granted in all the British Colonies in 1834, and which brought ruin, disaster and distress to all the old established and wealthy land owners in the island, mostly French and Spanish, and from which many never recovered. It was at that time that he became a solicitor. he died in 1837."
