Obituary reads: Raymond Claude Gaw, 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep, November 24, 1994 at Wasatch Care Center in Ogden, Utah.

Ray was born September 10, 1918 in Grand Tower, Illinois, to Emma Elizabeth Enlow and Volly Palo Gaw. He and his six adoring sisters were raised on the family farm by goodly parents. At 16, during the Great Depression, Ray left the farm to work with the Civilian Conservation Corps, in Rock Island, Illinois, sending his pay home to help support his family.In the late 1930's Ray went out west to seek his fortune and settled in Los Angeles, Calif. where he met his "Spanish senorita", Irene Romero, who became his wife, September 17, 1940. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple September 26, 1964.

Ray was working as a truck driver when he was drafted into World War II, serving in the Medical Corps. of the United States Army. He was inducted in 1945, after the war had ended, and served during the occupational of Japan. He received an honorable discharge the following year, after which he became a newspaper mailer, and this became his lifelong occupation. He was a loyal union member of the International Typographical Union and worked many years for the Los Angeles Examiner, the Pacific Press Corp., and many other shops, retiring in 1981 from Newspaper Agency Corp in Salt Lake City.

Irene passed away in 1978. He later married Fay Browning, who also preceded him in death. Ray was a High Priest in the LDS Church, and served in many callings throughout his life.

Survivors include one son, Ronald and Judy Gaw, of Middletown, Rhode Island; two daughters, Gayle and Curtis Browning, of Ogden; Adrian and Timothy Leak, of West Jordan. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson. Ray is also survived by four sisters, Ruby Dodenhoff, of Chico, Calif.; Mary Cosby, or Norco, Calif.; Betty Burghout, of Chalmette, Louisiana; and Norma Dodge, of Riverside, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 10 a.m. at West Jordan 2nd Ward, 7925 South 2700 West, friends may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment Valley View Memorial Park.
