About Raymond Gregory Papabavlou
Raymond Gregory Papabavlou (1992 - 2020)
Raymond (28), a farmer at Frischgewagt farm, in the Rooikraal area, between Groblersdal and Stoffberg, was shot dead while he was sleeping in bed, at round 23h30 on 4th October 2020. He was shot five times, once in the head, three times in the side and once in the back, and found laying on the bed face down by his wife . It appears that the perpetrators gained access through the bedroom window.
Raymond's wife was laying on the couch in the lounge at the time she heard the gunshots, after which she took out her firearm and shot back at the perpetrators. The couples dog attacked the gunmen, she then fired seven shots, and they fled.
Another farmer in the area, who would like to remain anonymous, said Mr. Papabavlou's wife called the previous night about a suspicious Mercedes parked next to the tar road in Rooikraal. The vehicle's registration number has been determined that it comes from an address in Gauteng. When farmers reacted to confronting the vehicle, it was already gone.
"According to the Groblersdal police spokesperson, adjudant officer Stanley Magaela, the bedroom door was open and the woman fired seven warning shots through the door."
Security and services were all at the scene. Raymond was certified dead by the responding emergency services.
Lt.Gen. Nneke Ledwaba, the provincial police commissioner, ordered that the incident be thoroughly investigated and that the culprit/s be arrested.
Nothing was stolen.
Update 28/10/2020: 23 year-old Patricia Ray-Lee Smith was arrested. She appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 30th October on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Reports claim that she and Raymond's wife Simone have been romantically involved.
