Notes for REBECCA BOATWRIGHT:

Information concerning the children of John and Rebecca was received from Shawnda Kimmel. BIOGRAPHY: [David Rains quoting Shawnda Kimmel]: Children of John Hamilton & Rebecca Boatwright: Judith Anne Hamilton, Mary Washington Hamilton, Sarah Hamilton, Augustus Marion Hamilton, Louisa C. Hamilton.

Per the application that Rebecca filed for a pension based on John Hamilton's service in War of 1812, Rebecca states that she was married in Cumberland County.

The Civil War period must have been sad for Rebecca and her siblings. Sons of the brothers who went to Ohio were Union. Rebecca and her sister as well as brothers from Southwest Virginia had Confederate sons.

Greenfield Cemetery

Burial: Greenfield Cemetery, Goochland County, Virginia

The cemetery is visable on the hill. Rebecca and her daughter Anne have the tall stones. Rebecca's daughter Mary Washington Hamilton Ranson and her husband Alexander Ranson are in front of Rebecca and Mary Washington Hamilton Ranson's daughter Nannie Ranson Jenkins and husband William George Jenkins

The tall markers for Rebecca and her daughter Anne were cut from a little quarry that is to the right as you enter the town of Columbia about 7 miles to the west.

The cemetery appears to have been originally laid out for Archibald Bryce who built Greenfield before the Revolution.
