" Benjamin Tanner (57) left Rhode Island and set out for Ohio in what would now be called a 'Prairie Schooner.' Stopping on the way to rest, he was persuaded to buy a farm in or near Canaan, N. Y. During the Revolution Rebecca Fones lived with her mother on Hope Island. Her father remained at sea until the war was over."
