Reuben Rich was the son of Col Moses Rich 1767 and Sarah Hickox. His parents moved from Middlefield, Otsego County, New York where Reuben was born to Sand Bank, Richland, Oswego County by 1825. Reuben apparently moved there earlier, being in the 1820 census as a single person.
On May 3, 1825, the first town meeting of Albion was adjourned at the horse barn of Reuben Rich. He was chosen as highway commissioner.
Reuben married Julia Jaquith. He was a millwright. His father Moses erected the first grist mill in Sand Bank.
