About Rev. Asa Cummings, Jr.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/150787381/asa-cummings
Son of Asa Cummings
He died at sea of illness aboard the steamer 'George Law,' in the company of his daughter, Hannah Cummings Rowell, and her husband, Rev. Joseph Rowell. They had set sail from Panama, where the Rowell's lived at the time (probably missionaries--they ended up in San Francisco running a mission.) Asa was buried at sea. So, strictly speaking, he was not "lost at sea," he died with his family and was given a very Christian burial at sea, we may be sure.
