REV. CHARLES EDWARD DOUGLAS, A.M. [son of David], born at West Point, NY, Sept. 6, 1818. 1830, Jan. 9, went to the Highland school (Messrs. Watson). 1831, Oct. 29, at Flushing Institute with Dr. Muhlenberg. 1834, Nov. 12, at Kenyon College, Ohio, for three hears. Degree B.A. Aug. 9, 1837. Feb. 15, 1838, in Prof Nordheimer's Hebrew class, University of New York. Oct. 22, 1838, Trinity College, Cambridge, England. March, 1840, Littlego, first class. Feb. 1, 1841, second declamation prize (Nugee 1st, Benjamin Shaw 3d). Jan. 22, 1842, degree day. A senior optime, but deferred degree intending to return to America. July 1, 1842, tutor at Lord Mounteagle's, in Ireland. Nov. 22, Mr. Everett applied to have the oath of allegiance relaxed, but failed. 1843, again tutor at Lorg Mounteagle's. 1845, tutorship in Scotland, and at Naples. Oct 14, 1846, at Hurstmonecaux with Edward Venables. Introduction to Archdeacon Hare, and engagement as curate of Brighton. Took A.B. degree. 1846, ordained deacon at Brighton. 1848, ordained priest at Chichester. June 3, 1855, preached the ordination sermon at Chichester. April 11, 1856, went to the United States for six months. Oct. 1, 1858, took M.A. degree at Cambridge. Aug. 23, 1859, married Harriette SHEPHARD, daughter of John SHEPHARD, Esq., then of Mont Clare, Rochampton. Sept. 29, 1861, appointed incumbent of St. Stephen's church, Brighton. Has published, "The One Fold of Christ, or Spiritual and Practical Unity," "The Doctrine of Holy Baptism, practically explained in three Discourses." "An Outline of the Principles of Public Worship."
