About Rev. D.S. David
Great-grandfather, David - a man of prayer, simple lifestyle
My mother was brought up from the age of 18 months by this doting grandfather who had a variety of children and grandchildren living with him. He had a simple and contented lifestyle. Always hospitable - there was always an extra place at table for callers. Main diet rice and fish with veg. Meat was for Saturdays. Every morning started with prayers for the whole household including servants attended and every evening ended in the same way. He prayed for each of them individually. My mum says he prayed a lot, her memory of him was on his knees. Everyone was expected to attend 3 services on Sundays. It was ‘low Anglican’ in tradition i.e. no incense or even a cross was allowed.
When another daughter died unexpectedly while in Burma, he prayed for one hour got up and wrote cards for all relatives and friends. Then went back to praying again. By the next day when everyone got their cards, he also was dead
