David Jarrell Kelley Maddox – A Brief Biography
David was a Baptist minister, ordained in 1860, who served as pastor of nine churches in Ohio and Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. For 16 years he was pastor of West Providence Baptist Church and was for seven years moderator of the Gasper River Association. His father, John, provided in his will that David receive his father's homestead and farm and all my landed estate not heretofore disposed of. Thus, the son returned to his place of birth and in 1885, owned and cultivated about 300 acres of well-improved land that had been the "family manor.' The Hartford Herald – February 24, 1904 carried the following obituary. Rev. D.J.K. Maddox, one of the most popular and widely know ministers of the Baptist church in this section of Kentucky, died at his residence near Rockport, Sunday night. His remains were interred at the home cemetery, near his residence. He was about 70 years old. He was the father of a large family nearly all of whom, with a wife, survive him. Truly a good man has entered into that rest reserved to the faithful God
