Rev. James Hill Bounds was a traveling Methodist preacher in Mississippi, who moved to Texas in 1867, where he built a church in Tehuacana Valley near his home (3 miles south of Wortham).
His father was Thomas Bounds, born 14 July 1794 in Richmond Co., NC, and died in Kemper Co., MS in 1866; and his mother was Agnes Cole Bounds, born October 1, 1800 in NC, and died 1870 in Freestone Co., TX.
