"James Stirling, bapt. 13th June 1662, son of John S., min. of Kilbarchan ; licen. by Presb. of Glasgow 21st Dec. 1687; ord. to Kilbarchan 8th June 1688 ; trans, and adm. 18th July 1699 ; elected Dean of Faculty by Univ. of Glasgow June 1730, but refused to accept ; died 12th Dec. 1736. He bequeathed 3000 merks to encourage the schools in the parish, and to buy Bibles and Catechisms for the poor. He marr. 15th Jan. 1691, Margaret (buried 9th Sept. 1713), daugh. of Alexander Dunlop, min. of Paisley, and had issue —
