Jehiel7 Ashley, born 20 Oct. 1795 at Fort Ann; died about 1860/70 in Arkansas.
Jehiel Ashley married in 1826 at Fort Ann, his cousin Phebe Dewey, daughter of Thaddeus and Mary (Salisbury) Dewey, born in 1796.
Jehiel and Phebe had four children.
Jehiel, a Freewill Baptist, moved to Phillips County, Arkansas. He purchased 161 acres there October 10, 1839. His real estate that he used to farm was valued at 4,000 dollars in 1850 and 18,000 in 1860. Although it was said in the Ashley Genealogy that Jehiel owned slaves, the 1850 and 1860 Federal Slave Schedules do not list him as a slave owner. Jehiel and Phebe probably died between 1860, when they were listed in the census, and 1870, when they were not.
