About Rev. Jeremiah Shepard

The only child of Rev. Thomas & Margaret (Borodell) Shepard, he was a graduate of Harvard Colleg in 1669 and was ordained in Lynn on October 6, 1680, as successor of Rev. Samuel Whiting. He was pastor at Lynn for forty years.

He married Mary Wainwright, daughter of Francis and Philippa Wainwright of Ipswich, about 1672.

"Inscriptions from the old burying ground, Lynn, Mass.", by Moulten, 1886, p. 107: The tomb of Rev. Jeremiah Shepard. The memory of the just is blessed. Mrs. Mary Shepard, died March 28th 1710, AET. 53, the mother of 9 children. 5 died. A prudent wife is from the Lord. Prov. 31, 10 & 25 verses. Jeremiah, 1700 AET. 23. Mehetabel, 1688. Margaret, 1688. Thomas 1709, AEt. 29. Francis, 1692

p. 108: Rev. Jeremiah Shepard, died June 2, 1720, AEt. 72. Elijah's mantle drops, the prophet dies; His earthy manson quits and mounts the skies. -So Shepard's gone. His precious dust, death's prey, indeed is here, But's nobler breath 'mong seraph's does appear; He joins the adoring crowds about the throne, He's conquered all, and now he wears the crown.
