He was a Minister. He was graduated from Harvard College in 1689. He spent the first few years after graduating at home with his father. He preached a short time in Manchester. He later preached at Salem (1697-1699) and Ipswich (1703). He was settled as mininster at Newcastle (1703-1712), and at the 2nd Church in Portsmouth (1715 to his death).

On 2 March 1701/02 he was appointed administrator of his mother's estate. He made a voyage to England for his health in 1712, spent some time in the city of London, and was "handsomely noticed by Queen Ann."
