About Rev Nathaniel Jewett Merrill
Our g-grandfather served as a Methodist minister at both the Wilbraham and Monson Methodist Churches. Methodist minsters were 'circuit' ministers at that time in history. Moving from church to church. We did manage to find records of him serving at a parish out towards Boston at one point as well. Parents: Joseph Annis Merrill & Hannah Jewett Merrill
Rev. Nathaniel Jewett Merrill.
A graduate of Wesleyan Academy in 1837. In 1838 he became a faculty member of the Lousiana State College at Jackson, LA. He remained in the south until 1841 having started the Merrill Academy in New Orleans with his brother Amos Binney Merrill.
In 1839 he married his first wife, Miss Rose Phillips of New Orleans, who lived only a year. Shortly after her death he returned to New England where he studied at the Old Concord Theological Seminary. He graduated in 1843 and soon after joined the New England Conference (Methodist), remaining a member until his death.
Rev. Nathaniel Jewett Merrill married Georgianna Pinkham in 1843. They had six children. Rose Philips (Merrill) Welch, Amos Binney, Annis Pinkham, Nathaniel Pinkham, Georgiana Pinkham (Merrill) Sigsbee, and Caroline "Carrie" Augusta (Merrill) Delabarre.
Rev. Merrill pastored many churches throughout Massachusetts until 1803.
