Nathaniel Lord Upham, son of Nathaniel Gookin Upham, was born in Concord, NH He was graduated from Dartmouth College in 1853 and served as Secretary for the London Commission, of which his father was a member, for two years. He graduated from Andover Theological Seminary in 1857; and was pastor of a Congregational church in Manchester, Vermont, and later of Presbyterian churches at Reaville and Merchantville, NJ During the war of the Rebellion he was chaplain of the 35th New Jersey infantry, and was in the Vicksburg campaign.
