Biographical Summary

Alexander Glas, born about 1653, son of Thomas G., min. of Little Dunkeld ; educated at Univ. of Glasgow ; M.A. (1671) ; ord. to a Presbyterian congregation at Dunmurry, Ireland, before Jan. 1683 ; trans, and adm. to Auchtermuchty before 29th Sept. 1691 ; called 31st Jan. 1699 ; trans, and adm. 30th April 1700; died between 21st March and 14th April 1725. He was the first who discovered and warned his son John that his principles were those of an Independent, before the latter had promulgated those sentiments, which ended in his separation from the Church. He marr. Christian, daugh. of John Duncan, min. of Rerrick, and had issue —

  • John, min. of Tealing, founder of the Glassites ;
  • Agnes (marr. William Lyon, min. of Airlie) ;
  • Margaret (marr. George Fleming, min. of Lundie).
