John Henry Skinner was born in Rusk Co. TX to Rebecca (Robinson) and Archibald Skinner. He lived in TX until after his marriage Dec 5, 1872 in Stephenville, Erath Co, TX to Pinkie Alice Bourne (of Grayson Co. VA) The couple came to NM by wagon in 1880 and settled on the Bonito, Lincoln Co. NM John was engaged in several businesses, including farming, dealer and contractor for Stark Nursery, owning and operating a harness and saddle shop, livery stable, and a restaurant and hotel in Carrizozo. He was also a Baptist minister and held pastorets in several areas of the county. Rev. Skinner leaves his wife, Pinkie, two daughters, Alice Duggar and Effie Zumwalt of Nogal, sons, Floy of Nogal, Roy of Carrizozo, 35 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren. Funeral services were at the Baptist Church by Rev. L. D.Jordon. The Odd Fellows, to wich order he belonged, had charge of the remaoins and acted as pall bearers. Interment was in Carrizozo, Evergreen Cemetery.
