Fasti of the Church of Scotland IV: 184
Robert was the second son and younger brother of Alexander (second of Wester Clunie). It is through his line alone that the connection with the property in the district of Athole has been maintained by the " Stewarts of Fothergill." He was educated for holy orders at St. Andrews University, where he took the degree of M.A. on July 23, 1672 and in 1679 was presented to the parish of Killin, Perthshire. He continued minister of this parish until his death in 1729. A family Bible in his handwriting is extant, as well as a document pertaining to his installation as minister of Killin. He married Anna Campbell, daughter of Duncan Campbell of Edramuchy, a cadet branch of the Glenorchy Campbells. In 1686 Robert purchased the estate of Pitcastle from his cousin Gilbert Stewart.
