In the Old Burying Ground in Bedford is a stone preserved underground for perhaps a century,& had recently been unearthed in the village graveyard. The graveward lies next to an old church that was burned down during the Revolutionary War; The inscription on the old stone reads: "1742 (next line illegible) Deceased Thomas Woolsey Born in the yeare 1656"

This stone was evidently left behind when bodies of the Woolsey family were removed to the Bedford Union Cemetery in the Nineteenth Century.

In Bedford, “The old parish grave yard llying on a declivity near the Methodist meeting house, contains many curious memorials. One is the marker of Thomas Woolsey: The Deceased Thomas Woolsey born in the year A.D. 1655
