About Rfn. Guy Clark Wilson
Guy Clark Wilson was born in Wellington on 5 January 1889 (reg. 1889/18086). His parents were Kenneth and Amy Anney Wilson (nee Clark) of Palmerston North who married in 1883 (reg. 1883/2792). Kenneth's first wife was Fanny Williams (1847-1879) whom he married in 1871. Guy's mother Amy died in Wellington at the age of 32 on 26 February 1890 (reg. 1890/660). In Papatoetoe on 7 September 1915 Guy married Merrial Winifred Mander (reg. 1915/5642), daughter of John and Annie Jeffery Mander. The couple moved to Tauranga where they farmed at Ohauiti. They had one child together, Peter Kenneth Wilson (1917-2002). Three months after their son was born, on 13 July 1917 Guy enlisted to serve during World War I. He was with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion. Rifleman Guy Clark Wilson was killed in action at Bapaume in France on 6 August 1918, aged 29. He was buried in Gommecourt Wood New Cemetery at Foncquevillers in Pas-de-Calais, France. Merrial died in 1946 (reg. 1946/27559). She was buried in Waikumete Cemetery.
