Riaan Kerkhof (1954 - 2007)
Brief overview:
Riaan (53), was shot when four armed males gained access to his home in Moreleta, Pretoria, on 9th November 2007. His daughter Helene (21) woke up to screaming and shouting, and a gunshot. The attackers pulled her out of bed, assaulted her, then tied her to Riaan, who was bleeding out. He died in hospital the following morning.
For over an hour how the attackers searched the house, ate from the fridge before eventually leaving after midnight.
They stole left two laptop computers, a digital camera, DVD-player, iPod and two cellphones.
A memorial service will be held for Kerkhof at 11:00 on 12th November at the Silverton Reformed Church.
On 17th November 2007 a 17-year-old, and two other suspects, were arrested. It was believed they were members of a gang who were terrorising Garsfontein in Pretoria’s east. Captain Lucas Sithole said two other suspects, aged 25 and 28 had been arrested for robbery in Moreleta Park. The operation was conducted after a spate of robberies in recent months. The suspects were set to appear in court on 19th November 2007.
