About Richard Pittman Bentley
Richard Bentley in the Civil War Civil War and After
Richard Bentley enlisted in Company I in May of 1862 as a corporal and was soon organized into and joined the 48th Alabama Regiment of the Confederate States of America. Richard P Bentley was in the Battle of Cedar Run, VA, Second Appomattox Battle, the Battle of Gettysburg, PA and the Battle of Chicamauga, GA. He also testified that he was in a great many more battles during the war. He was parolled in 1865.
He was examined in response to his application for a pension in 1902 and was found to be blind in one eye and the other eye was extremely weak.
While in one battle he was injured in the left side, which resulted in an abcess.
He applied for a pension and was so granted . After his death in Cleburne County on January 24th, 1912, his widow, Eugenia Elizabeth Smith Bentley applied for his pension and it was so granted.
