Richard Holland was convicted at the Old Bailey, Middlesex, on Wednesday 2/7/1806 for stealing a parcel out of a cart. He was given a 7 year sentence and taken to a prison hulk at Langston Harbour to await transportation. Richard Hollard arrived in NSW on 27th July 1807 aboard the "Duke of Portland" Richard Holland was an educated man. He was a witness to the Will of his father-in-law William Roberts dated 7/2/1820, on which he signed his name with certain style. When his 5th child was baptised in 1823 Richard's occupation was shown in the Parish Register as a shopkeeper and 2 years later, when son Thomas was baptised he was listed as a butcher. In November 1828 a full scale Census of New South Wales was taken and the Holland Family was listed as follows:

Richard was born in England on 8 May 1783 and died at Windsor, New South Wales on 10 May 1867.
Richard Holland married MARY ROBERTS (daughter of William Roberts and Kezia Brown) on 18 October 1813 at St Matthews Church, Windsor. This was a second marriage for Richard as he had been married in England.
Mary Roberts was born in Sydney on 15 June 1793 and died on 24 July 1863.
Richard farmed land at Cornwallis and also possibly owned land in Windsor where he had a shop - initially a bakers and later a butchers shop.
