Affidavit

The prevailing disinclination and determination not to pay Tythes of any kind and the general intimidation prevalent against those who should dare to discharge them and also the prevention of the Valuators for the year 1831, whom they beat off the ground, threatening their lives and making them surrender their books and papers in consequence of which your Memorialist has been reduced to the greatest difficulties, and rendered unable to discharge a considerable sum of salary due to his Curate.

Both Richard and William Ivory were leaseholder in Killandrew in 1833 from the then landlord Thomas Garvey Esq.(Ref. Tithe Applotment Books).

Richard was still the tenant on the land at the time of the 1841Census and also in 1843 when the field books for Griffiths Valuation were written but may have died soon afterwards as his son-in-law Lawrence Conway is listed as the leasee when the records were printed in 1850.

A Richard Ivory was married in Glenmore 1824. This appears to be the only Ivory Marriage in the area which ties in with the birth of Ellen Ivory in 1827 who married Laurence Conway in June 1849.

Richard Ivory erected a Gravestone in Kilbeacon Cemetry in memory of his father John, who died in 1784 aged 38, and his brother Daniel who died May 4th 1808 aged 30. There are no further inscriptions on the large tombstone.
