About Richard Quiney
https://shakespearedocumented.folger.edu/exhibition/document/parish...
He was a childhood friend and schoolmate of William Shakespeare. His son Thomas married Shakespeare's daughter Judith.
He was a mercer and partner of his father Adrian. He was Bailiff of Stratford in 1592 and 1601. His correspondence has been published by E. I. Fripp, Master Richard Quyny (1924), consisting mainly of letters he received during visits to London between 1597 and 1601. He wrote a letter to Shakespere in 1598, the only known epistle to exist, it is preserved in the Museum at Stratford attached to Shakespere's birthplace. He died during his year in office as Bailiff of Stratford.
He was the first bailiff to die in office, necessitating an emergency meeting of the Corporation, held on the same day as the funeral, to elect a successor. John Gibbs was sworn in the following day (Minutes and Accounts, vi, pp. 196-7).
