Richard Skolfield

Richard3 Skofield (Thomas2, Thomas1) was born in 1774 at Mere Point, Maine; married Margaret Given, daughter of Daniel Given (1752-1837) and Martha Ross, on 22 January 1799 in Brunswick, Maine. He died between 11 September 1860 and 4 January 1872. This is the family which began to spell the name Skofield. Richard Skofield began mortgaging his land to Robert Given, who was probably a brother of his wife Margaret, quite early and then got it back, but probably did not leave Brunswick until 1815, according to Esther Skolfield Schmidt's notes. Richard was "of Livermore in the County of Oxford" when he sold his Mere Point farm to his brother Jacob by deed signed at Brunswick 23 July 1816 and found in the Cumberland Deeds, Book 80, page 180. He and his family were listed in the 1820 census of Livermore. Beginning with his purchase of land at East Livermore from Calvin Bumpus in January 1834, several deeds were located in which Richard bought, sold, or mortgaged land in the Livermore-East Livermore region, the latest signed by Richard and wife Margaret on 11 September 1860 and copied into the Androscoggin Deeds, Book 25, page 260, conveying land in East Livermore to his son-in-law, Oilman D. Garland. Richard's age was shown as eighty-six in the East Livermore census taken on 12 June 1860 when he was living with his daughter Mary Garland's family. The last record of him is the 11 September 1860 deed noted previously. Margaret Given was born 21 March 1778 in Brunswick, Maine; died 4 January 1872 in Boston, Massachusetts. She is listed as a widow on her death record. The children of Richard3 Skofield and Margaret Given were:

ii. Margaret Given Skofield was born 21 September 1801; married James Perkins.

iii. Thomas Skofield was born 12 March 1803; married, first, Rebecca Ellis Day; married, second, Sabrina Furbush.

iv. Martha Given Skofield was born 19 December 1806; married John Brown, Jr.

v. Jean Orr Skofield was born 10 December 1809 in Brunswick, Maine; died 20 May 1826 in Livermore, Maine.

vi. Robert Given Skofield was born 12 October 1812; married Sybil M. Ford.

vii. Richard T. Skofield was born in 1816; married Mary Pugsley.

viii. Mary M. Skofield was born in 1820; married, first, Ebenezer Farrington, Jr.; married, second, Gilman Daniels Garland.
