Preston's Book of Deeds shows a deed, recorded 23 Jan'y, 1705/6, as Richard Starkweather's deed given by Lieut. Wm. Dennison of Stonington to John Starkweather "of my lands as it lieth with in ye bounds of Preston......as it is entered in Record in Stonington" ---the latter phrase showing this tract's proximity to the "North West Corner" of Stonington.

Mary [Plumer] Starkweather joined the South Society church of Preston 27 Sept 1724

The Norwich Probat District records give his will, presented 6 May 1760, as follows:

"In the name of God Amen this 11th Day of March 176 I Richard Starkweather of Preston in the County of New London and Colony of connecticut being Sick and Weak in Body But of a Sound Mind and memory thanks be to God, Therefore Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and that it is appointed for all men Once to Die Do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament. Principally and first of all i Recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that Gave it and my Bondy I Recomment to the Earth to be Deacently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors Nothing Noubting but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive ye Same again by the Mithgty Power of God and as touchin gSuch Worldly Estate Where with it hath pleased God to Bless me in This Life withall I Give demise and Dispose of the Same in the following manner and form after my just Debts and funeral Charges are paid by my Executors.

Imprimis: I Give and Bequeath unto my Well Beloved Wife Mary the Improvement of one third part of my Real Estate During the tiem of her Natural Life and teh Priviledge and use of the Bigest Room in my house and the chamber Said Room During the Time of her Natural Life and a third of the Seller---I also Give to my Said Wife the one half of my House Hold Goods and one third part of the Rest of my movable Estate to be at her Dispose forever-----

Item: I Give to my Son Elijah about four acres and an half of Land Lying North of Land I have before Given him Bounded to Run from Said Elijah North East Corner about Seventeen Rods and three foot to a Rock marked with R: Then to run Weaterly to the Land of John Meex: then Southerly by Said Meexs Land about Seventeen Rods and three foot to Said Elijahs Land with the Priviledges thereto belonging and that with what I have allready Given him to be the whole of his Portion out of my Estate.

Item: I Give to my Son Nathan my Best Coat and Jacket and that with what I have allready Given him to be the whole of his portion out of my Estate.

Item: I Give to my Son Jabish [Jabez] One hundred pounds Lawful money to be paid to him within two years after my Decease by my Son Jesse: I also Give to my Son Jabish my Brown Horse and the Rest of my Cloathing that I have not Given away and that with what I have allready Given him to be the whole of his portion out of my Estate.

item: I Give to my Son Jesse all my Lands with the Buildings thereon that I have not all Ready Given away to be his forever he paying to my Son Jabish the hundren pounds I have Given him and also paying what I shall further Order: I also Give to my Son Jesse all the Rest of my movable Estate that I have not all ready Given away to be his forever.

item: I Give to my Daughter Olive five pounds to be paind to her by my Son Jesse within two years after my Decease, and that with what I have allready given her to be the whole of her portion out of my Estate. Item: I Give to my Daughter Amy the one half of my household goods: I also Give to my Daughter Amy thirty poiunds Lawfull money to be paid to her by my Son Jesse within two Years after my Decease and that to be the whole of her portion out of my Estate. And I do Constitute and appoint my Loveing wife Mary and my Son Jesse to be my Executors to this my last Will and Testament and I do hearby Disanul and Revoke all other wills and Bequests Ratifying this and only this to be my Last Will and Testament.
