Origin Richard was born January 10, 1617 at Boughton Aluph, Kent, England.[1] Richard was baptized on 2 February 1625 at St Nicholas, Deptford, Kent, England.[1] He was a son of Robert Wells and Mary Peniall.[citation needed]

Immigration Richard "Welle," aged 17, sailed in July 1635 aboard the Assurance de Lo, Isack Bromwell and George Pewsie, Masters.[2] Those men who were aboard took the "Oath Allegeance and Supremacie" and were "examined by the Minister of the Town of Gravesend of their conformitie in our religion."[2]
