Richard F. White (b. 12 Mar 1816, d. 19 Sep 1909) Richard F. White (son of Thomas White and Missouri Buffington) was born 12 Mar 1816 in Cherokee Nation East, and died 19 Sep 1909 in Weogugka, Coosa Co., AL. He married Morning C. Thompson on 20 Feb 1839 in Coosa Co., AL, daughter of John Thompson and Martha Fields.
Notes for Richard F. White: Richard was seventeen when he was uprooted from his home in the mountians of NC. He lived to be 93 years age. Much of the information on the family comes from Richard who related the family history to his grandson James Richard White in about 1902. John Blankenship helped him acquire two parcels of land in Coosa Co., AL in 1839 & 40 each contained 40 acres. These parcels were located in Section 5, Township 23, Range 18E were adjacent to John Blankenships farm. He was a Mason in the Rockford Lodge and supported of States Rights. One of his sons was named for a State Legislator William Loudes Yance know as the Patrick Henry of he South. In 1861 when the war began Richard is quoted as saying " Well by god the blue shirts took our land last time but they gona fight for it this time." Richard enlisted on March 9, 1862 at Weogufka, AL along with his son Henry. They were sent to Montgomery, AL and then by train to Richmond, VA. They were assigned to "B" Company 12th AL Infantry Regiment. When they arrived the first battle of Bull Run had just ended and their first duty was to remove the dead and wounded from the battle field. Richard served under Gen. Rodes in Gen. Stonewall Jackson's Brigade and was wounded at ASharpsburg, MD but remain in service until the end of the war in 1865. HE saw action at at Harpers Ferry, Sharpsburg, Seven Pines Wilderness, and at Gettysburg. He said Gen. Lee told them the war was over to go home and tend yours crops. So we left. When he returned to Coosa Co. life had changed they lost the farm to taxes and was made to sharecrop, ox tend, and oversee. In 1878 the family migrated to Fayette Co. AL wher they remained until about 1903 when most of the family went to Tezas. In 1900 John Thomas White travelled to Fayette Co., AL to the funeral of his brother William Yancey White when he returned to Coosa Co., AL Richard came with him to live out his remaining years. Richard F White died in Coosa Co., AL, in the residence of his grandson James Richard White. Richard used an X as his signature on several documents, the 1840 census had check marks showing that one of them could read and write this had to be Morning Cloud.
