About Robert Bruce, 8th Lord of Kennet

Biographical Summary

"Robert Bruce, eighth of Kennet. On the death in 1769 of his maternal aunt Margaret (titular Baroness Balfour of Burleigh) he would, but for the attainder of the title in 1715, have succeeded as seventh Lord Balfour of Burleigh. He was born 24 December 1718. Advocate 15 January 1743. Professor of the Law of Nations in Edinburgh University 22 June 1759. Sheriff of Clackmannan 1760. Judge of the Court of Session under the title of Lord Kennet 4 July 1764, and a Lord Justiciary 16 November 1769. Married, 6 June 1754, Helen, eldest daughter of George Abercromby of Tullibody. He died 8 April 1785, aged sixty-six."
