High school was the Ford Trade School. Joined USNavy at 18. In 1943, joined first crew of newly launched ship, the destroyer DD-672, USS Healy*. Commendation (medal?) for helmsmanship during Pacific typhoon (Cobra) when 3 other 'tin cans' (Hull, Monahan, and Spence) sank. December, 1944.
Bob worked at Ford Motor after the war til approx 1963. Took job at Lockheed, Missile moved to California. Very hush-hush government projects ("Skunk Works") at Lockheed. Received citations from Presidents Nixon, Carter, and Reagan for his Lockheed work, among others the "Star Wars" SDI project. Traveled abroad often. Would touch down at Willow Run or DTW for 1 or 2 hour layover, not be able to say where he was flying from or to.
