About Robert Gragg, Sr.

In 1758 Robert Gragg served in the Virginia Militia under Col. Joun Buchanan, and Major John Brown. He served as a private in the Virginia Colonial Line in the American Revolution. He was one of the 450 volunteers from the Augusta County area who went on the Cherokee expedition to Holston Country, which is now Tennessee. He lived in Augusta County,Va. for about 38 years. On 3 Feb. 1798, he purchased from Alexander Kelly 500 acres in Greene County, on the waters of the Nolichucky River, south of the river . He built a two-story brick home near Gregg Creek. It is stated that this home was the first brick home built in Eastern Tennessee.
