Robert Hamilton of Dalserf is the eldest son of Robert Hamilton of Dalserf. He is identified as his father's eldest son in a charter dated 1 June 1565, NRS: GD90/1/172 as Robert Hamilton of Nerstoun on 10 May 1600, Inquisitionum: II and as Robert Hamilton of Dalserf on 19 June 1630, when his nephew William Hamilton of Dalserf was served as heir to his deceased uncle. Robert Hamilton of Dalserf died before 10 May 1600, the date upon which his younger brother was served as his heir in half the lands of Nerston in the barony of Kilbride. Inquisitionum: II
