Obituary – NEWTOWN SOLICITOR – Death of Mr. R. H. Whitworth
The death occurred in a Reading nursing home on Tuesday last week (30.03.1948) of Mr. Robert Henry Whitworth, of "Beeches," Newtown. He was 84 years of age.
For many years Mr. Whitworth practised as a solictor in London and latterly conducted his business from his Newtown home. He came to the district about 20 years ago and lived first at Enborne, then at Quarry Wood, Burghclere, moving to "Beeches" 12 years ago.
Despite his years, he served in the local Home Guard during the early days of the 1939-45 war. He leaves a widow and one son, for whom much sympathy is felt.
Memorial Service.
Cremation took place at Oxford, on Friday and a memorial service was held at Newtown Church on Tuesday conducted by the Rev. T. Leigh-Jones. The family present were Mrs. Whitworth (widow), Major and Mrs. G. B. Whitworth (son and daughter-in-law) and Brig. Leveson Gower (nephew).
Others present were Lady Kathleen Villiers, Major the Hon. C. Scott and Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Ashton Roskill. Sir John Hersbrugh, Brig. G. G.
