BIOGRAPHY: Inherited the huge estate of Ropers and a Manor house on Brookstreet known as the Moat House. All of this property was in Brentwood (then called Burntwood because of a fire that had burnt the woods 100 years previous). All Robert's property was just south of the parish church of South Weald.

Robert took over management of his father's property, the Ropers estate, and came to live at Brook Hall in about 1535. After he married in 1541he had the manor house enlarged and refurbished for his new wife. Robert referred to the newly expanded moated hall as the Mary Greene Manor, in honor of his wife, however his father refers to it in his will as "...Ropers in Brook Street, and house, meadow and orchard in Brook Street". As a consequence of his tenancy and management of the estate during his father's lifetime and his inheritance at his father's death, Robert Wright is referred to in the local parish records (South Weald) as "Mr. Robert Wright of the Brook", "Robert Wright of the Brook" or "Robert Wright of Brookstreet"

The manor house called The Moat House on Brookstreet in Brentwood was made the family home for Robert Wright's family and is still in use today. After doing some remodeling, Robert moved his family in and renamed it the Mary Green Manor in honor of his wife, Mary Green of the Green family of Navestock. It was added on to, and remodeled many times over the centuries, but today it is an inn and upscale restaurant called, appropriate to it's history, "The Mary Green Manor". The food is quite good... more French in flavor than English. But the atmosphere is pure English, with the owner striding about in red tails, white breeches, and black knee boots. The very picture of the English Lord of the Manor! They delight in having descendants of the Wright family in America stop by and make themselves known. They keep a record of everyone like that who visits and have published a very detailed book about the architecture and history of the Manor, including the genealogy of Robert Wright.
