Robert "Vance" Miller, 88, of Hixson, TN died Sunday, February 19, 2012, in Red Bank, TN.

He was born August 1, 1923 in Jenkinjones, W.Va., to the late Robert Melvin and Rossie Eldreth Miller.

He worked in the coal mines of West Virginia before moving his family to Sale Creek.

He retired from Koehring as a chief inspector.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country in the South Pacific.

He was a former member of Sale Creek Church of God and a member of North Chattanooga Church of God.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Eugenia Sluss Miller, of Hixson; son, Vance (Connie) Miller, of Hixson; and daughters, Gaynell (Edward) Massengill, of Guntersville, Ala., and Debra (Francis) Bodine, of Hixson; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Life Care of Red Bank and Dr. Parkhurst.

Funeral services for Vance will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eddie Massengill and Rev. Kenneth Bolton officiating.

Burial will follow with military honors in Welch-Rogers Cemetery in Sale Creek, TN.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN where they will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today.
