"The Norris Family" is an amazing work in Genealogy, 1500 pages in four volumes. Only three copies were produced, and one is located in the Rare Books Section of the Library of Congress. Another is to be in the Kansas DAR Library at dodge city, Ks. "Born Nasemond county, Virginia in Dec. 1647 at the home of his grandparents Hynson. Spent his boyhood days in St. Mary's co., Md. & moved to Talbot co., Md. with his parents abt 1663. Tabitha sister of Barbara wife of Thomas Collins. In Baldwin's calender of Wills this name appears as Offley. The orginal name as Ostley. Mrs. Ostley appears to have been a widow in 1698 and living with her daughter, Barbara Collins, as Thomas Collins begins his will, "my mother Ostley to have maintenance at my plantation during her life. Of the Ostley children there is record of Barbara, a daughter married Nicholas Clouds, and a son Edward Ostley who was a witness to the will of Thomas Collins. Robert Norris had grants of land in Talbot co., Md. as follows: 150 acres, "Clarkson HIll" in 1683 (Lib. 21 Fol. 390); 100 acres, "The Long Runne" in 1685, (Lib. 22 fol. 170); 150 acres, "Mt. Malicke", in 1686 (Lib. 22 fol. 222); 120 acres, "Norris Addition"' & 80 acres; Claxton Hill Addition", in 1688 (Lib. 22 fol. 342). He is recorded in deeds in Talbot co. as follows: 8 Aug. 1685 Robert Norres, of Talbot co., Carpenter, & Tabitha, his wife, deed to Thomas Punney, of said county, parts of two tracts of land, one called "Clarkson Hill", & the other "Jones Forrest", 18 Aug. 1685 he was deeded by Richard Jones Jr., 200 acres of land called "Jones Park", in Talbot co. on south side of Chester River. (Deeds Lib. 5 fol. 39). Robert Norris was one of the signers of a petition of the Protestants to the King from Talbot co. in 1687 (Arch Md. VIII, 134). On 17 Aug. 1688 he was deeded by Isaac Stone, Talbot co., 200 acres of land on south side of Chester River called Tulley's Reserve" (Deeds Lib. 5 fol. 193). He was executor to the will of Francis Shepherd, his brother-in-law, probated in 1692, & on 20 June 1693, as executor, he sold a part of 400 acres called "Shepherd's Forrest", to Edward Smith, i.e.; 100 acres on Red Lyon branch of Chester River (Deeds Lib. 7 fol. 22). On 2 Aug 1691 Thomas Collins, Gent. & Barbara, his wife, sold to Thomas Jewell 100 acres of land; Barbara appoints Robert Norris as her attorney with full power to act for her in the sale of the above mentioned land, etc. This was recorded 12th day of ___ 1693, month not stated (Deeds Lib. 7 fols. 35-6). In 1694 he purchased a tract of land from Patrick Abeyana & his wife (Deeds Lib. 7 fol. 88). This appears to be the last record of him in Talbot co. In 1695 there appears to be the first sharp & definite statement concerning the boundaries of Talbot & Kent counties & prior to this time records of one co. are apt to be filed in the other. In 1695 he had a grant of land "Norrest's Deisre", in Cecil co., Md. (Lib. B23 fol. 220); in 1696 he had a grant of 400 acres of land in Kent co., called "Philip's Neglect", jointly with one Alexander Micay (Lib. C3, 499). On 7 Feb. 1696 the vestry of Shrewsbury Parish, Kent county, Maryland appointed Simon Wilmer to represemt to Robert Norris what was to be done to the church, & agreement was made whereby said Norris is to "peil in the churchyard' a new cover; chancel to be railed; new pulpit & reading pew." (History Kent co., Hanson, pg. 346). On 18 Nov. 1697 vestry arranged with Robert Norris to build 13 pews in the church & a gallery in the west end (ibid, pg. 347). He was witness to several wills in Kent co. & with Nicholas Clouds was an overseer to the will of Thomas Collins, 23 Apr. 1698. This is the last definite record of him. From his activities in two counties from 1683 to 1698 & as said activities suddenly cease after April 1698 he is believed to had died in 1698. Tabitha, his widow survived him & married 2nd 19 Dec. 1703 Philip Davis, believed to be a son of a John Davis, St. Paul's Parish, Kent co., Md. No issue by second marriage & date of her death is not known."
