About Robert Potter, of Newport Pagnell
Biography
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Potter-37
Caution - Two (or more) Robert Potters
A different, immigrant Robert Potter was born c. 1609 in England, married to 1) Isobel (Unknown), 2) Sarah (Unknown) and lived at Roxbury in 1634, Portsmouth 1639, and Warwick 1642. He died before 14 May 1656 at Warwick.[1] This Robert Potter was no relation, and certainly not his father.
Unknown Origin
This Robert Potter is sometimes assumed to have been born in 1566 at Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England, the son of Thomas Potter and Isabel Sumner.[citation needed] Other parents have been proposed (See Research Notes).
Marriage
Robert Potter married on Nov 4, 1591 in Newport Pagnell, BuckInghamshire to Elizabeth Marshall.[2][3][4]
Children
Robert and Elizabeth's children, (baptized in Newport-Pagnell):[3] [4]

- Robert Potter, bpt. 15 Sep 1606, at Lynn in 1630, d. 1655 at Lynn, Essex Co., MA[5] was in Massachusetts by 1634 — (not to be confused with Robert Potter who was featured by Robert C. Anderson: b. by about 1609 in England, an adherent of Samuell Gorton, lived at Roxbury, MA and then at at Warwick, Rhode Island where he d.1655/56 See Caution above)
- Mary Potter, bpt. 11 Dec 1608

Note: Two sons named Thomas must have died young. There is a burial record for one Thomas Potter, 9 Aug 1595
Will
Extracted from a transcription of the Will of Robert Potter of Newport-Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England.

Date of birth has also been (erroneously?) reported to be 1564.
Robert POTTER. Nicholas Potter Descendants:
Recent research in England given in this volume apparently sheds a little light on this family's English origins. Included are "Nycholas", 3 Thomas's (two of which, at least, must have died young) John, Robert, Mary, Ann, Susan. No probate or civil records were included in the Potter volume.
He was married to Elizabeth MARSHALL on 4 Nov 1591 in Newport-Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England.
It is probable that Thomas and Isobell are the parents of Robert, but it can't really be proven.
[%282623%29 Nicholas Potter: These marriage, baptisms and burials were compiled by A Raymond Hebb who was hired to copy the names of all individuals by the name of Potter in the Parish Register, according to this volume.]
The line from Robert and Elizabeth backwards is mostly guess work that some agree with and others don't. I would highly recommend the book by Frank Elwood Potter named "The descendants of Nicholas Potter of Lynn Mass"
The child Robert shown listed according to church records shows he was born in Newport Pagnell in 1606. There was a Robert who was born in Coventry who migrated here about the same time as Nicholas, but there is no known connection between this Robert and the one who is a child of Robert and Elizabeth.

You pretty much have it all. Unless you have some other documents at your disposal. Line from Robert & Elizabeth backwards is mostly guess work some agree with & others don't. I would highly recommend bk by Frank Elwood Potter named "Descendants of Nicholas Potter of Lynn Mass" Child Robt you show listed according to church records shows he was b Newport Pagnell in 1606. There was Robt who b Coventry who migrated here abt same time as Nicholas, but no known connection bet this Robert & 1 who is child of Robert & Elizabeth.
Actual children listed is as follows
Thos Sep 1592
Thos Feb 1595
Thos Apr 1600
John Apr 1602
Nycholas Apr 1604
Robt Sep 1606
Mary Dec 1608
Ann Feb 1610
Susann Apr 1619
Probable Thos & Isobell are parents of Robt, but can't really be proven. Where do you fit in line?
Jack
Reply:
Hi Jack,
I believe I am direct descendant of Nicholas Potter thru Robert/Robert/Ephraim/Theophilus/Ephraim/Ephraim line. I have original obit from Jul 23 1887 where G3 gfather Ephraim was listed as b Ellisburg, NY (Jefferson Co) 3/12/1820. Says parents were amg early Am settlers & participated in Rev struggle.
