Robert Robertson

Robert Robertson was born on 3 April 1857 at Burrumbeet. He boarded at Scotch. He had a dairy farm at Wyung for about five years. He was of Enlay, Windermere 31 a farmer, when he married Mary Catherine Coomber on 4 December 1888 at Windermere. Witnesses were Willam T Robertson and Elizabeth J King. Kathrine was 35 the daughter of Robert Coomber a carpenter of Windermere and Anne Catherine Easton, and as Mary Kate was born on 13 September 1856 at Prahran. Robert Coomber had been a widow at the time of his marriage at Bermondsey in Surrey, where he was born, the son of John Coomber, a builder and his wife Sarah. Anne Catherine Easton was the daughter of a bricklayer, James Easton. Robert Comber died 28 June 1891 aged 79 years 6 months. Three children were born to Kathrine and Robert Robertson, at Ensay Station near Omeo, in Gippsland. Duncan had a lease on Ensay although it belonged to a Hamilton, and Robert was a farmer there. Robert had a dairy farm at Wyung for about five years. [Jack Robertson] Robert contracted typhoid and had ulcerated legs. [Jack Robertson] He was ill for nine years prior to his early death on 24 November 1910, at his residence Learmonth, aged 53. [death notice] and there was a report of the funeral in the local paper. “The funeral of Mr.Robert Robertson took place on Saturday at the Learmonth Cemetey. The deceased was widely esteemed, and a large number of residents of Ballarat, Waubra, Windermere and Burrumbeet attended the funeral. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Thomas Stafford, JP Spiers, JHS Reid, John Medwell, WD Sara, R Dineen, John Dolan, Jas Baird (Rosebank), W Hamilton and H Forsythe (representing NZ Insurance Company). The coffin bearers were Messrs. HM Page, F Kinnersley, H Middlemiss and H. Senior.” Kathrine died just a few years later on 26 June 1914 and was buried at Learmonth beside her husband.
